Sometimes, life comes at you fast and sideways, and usually when you least expect it… and all you can do is hold on for the ride and try to enjoy the show!
Hi there, my name is Daniel Lyons and this is my fiancée and partner Teresa Boas. We are two young at heart kids on a mission with meaning and together we are plunging head first into an eternity with our Lord and savior, rather than testing the waters one toe at a time. Call us crazy, but we love it and we would love for you to join us as we plunge forward with love.
In our life’s journey we have learned a few things by the trials we have faced: That life is very short, and it is also an awfully interesting place (to say the least) that comes with no guarantees. It is often a very messy and scary place, but by the mercy of God it does come with a wonderful saving grace in the form of a perfect promise:
That you are not alone, and that your God above loves you beyond compare, and that He will never test you beyond what you can bare!
To me, this is such an amazing and wonderful gift because when life gives you lemons, (and you know it will) and if you believe this promise from the Creator of all things, then you will always be at the ready with a juicer and pitcher in hand to make lemonade… mmm, yum!
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
A New Start
Some few years back, before I met the love of my life, I embarked upon a perilous journey into discovery. I assure you this adventure did not come about by choice, but rather it was thrust upon me with the full force of God’s power and mercy. And when I say that if God wants to get your attention to use you, well, He usually gets what He wants… despite your best efforts to run from it. Don’t believe me? Just ask Jonah
Unlike so many other stories told, the importance of my journey did not begin with a birth, but rather with a sentencing. Like so many characters in the Bible of old I too faced an incarceration for a crime that was never committed. The specifics of the incident are not important at this time (As it’s both very embarrassing and it is also a great distraction from the message at hand), but what is important is that God was there with me through my foolish misadventure, and as a result I discovered the greatest calling in my life. It doesn’t matter if you are in a jail/prison cell or in a hospital with the sick and dying, you will feel the magnificent power of God’s love and the greatness of His mercies unlike anywhere else. In the halls of suffering the draw of both heaven and hell is very real and very palpable, and for me this is where I heard Him for the first time.
Our God is not a cheerleader that stands ideally by and watches us from the sidelines with cheers of encouragement. He is there with you every hour, minute, second and moment of each day! Every choice you make He is there with you. He calls to you, touches you and even carries you through the fires we know as the testing of life. We are never alone; we only choose to ignore Him when it is convenient to do so.
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
The name Immanuel means “God with us.” It does not mean that God is for you
or pro you. He is here with you even now, and that my friend is an amazing thing. And if for some reason you turn your back on Him it does not make Him go away… it just makes you look a little foolish! A child cannot hide from their parent simply by looking away. Besides, how long can you hold your breath with your head buried in the sand? At some point we must all face the truth. Life is short, and we are all heading toward the inevitable grave. So, it really does pay to have a friend in high places, and who can you think of that is higher than Jesus?
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
When I was facing my darkest hours, God made Himself known to me. Not so much in a booming voice, but in quiet yet insistent promptings at my spirit. When I let my spirit become truly humbled and sought real answers to real questions, He knocked, I answered… We ate together and He has taught me the greatest wonders that I have ever know!
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
A Mission I Choose to Accept…
I will grow in the face of adversity!
Bought at a High Price
Teresa and I have been through some very hard and trying times in our lives before we met. We have both suffered with long and hard failing marriages; we have both seen our share of abuse (Both mentally and physically from those that should have loved us). We both have dealt with great loss and suffering, and we know what it means to be imprisoned; though there are more than the ones with bars that bind. We have seen and experienced a great many miseries in our lives and we have fallen so far, at times, that there was nowhere else to look but up, and climb. And I am sure there will be many more challenges in our life to come, but this time we will live our life on purpose, because through endurance and longsuffering we have started to learn what it truly means to overcome. It is unfortunate that suffering is our greatest teacher and without it we grow weak and complacent in life. Like so many it is easy to grow fearful of change and do all we can to try and resist it, and this is an unhealthy and unnatural place to live. Though life is hard at times it is through living with adversity that we learn to rise above it (Matthew 13:30). In our struggles we become stronger and more powerful instruments to the Lord. It is the fruit of the vine that struggles with drought that tastes the sweetest. It is the diamond that is cut and refined that shines, and it is the pearl of the greatest price that has the greatest luster… so too it is the precious metal refined in the hottest fires that reflects the truest light.
“Behold, I have created the blacksmith Who blows the coals in the fire, Who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy.
Life is hard and our crowns are all won at a high cost in the conquest to victory, but they are a prize well worth winning! Nothing worth having ever comes easy… nothing. So that means to be a true sword of truth and an instrument of His justice we must first be forged in the fires of the trials of life. We must be tempered through the beatings and poundings that we are given at the anvil/altar of adversity that He uses to shape our character. And we must learn to drink and accept the truth of the cool refreshing waters of the spirit. Fire, anvil and ice, this is your true calling in life. If you do not face them all now, you will soon shatter in the face of combat with the true enemy (Yourself, and your own sinful nature). Like a soldier of fortune, you must seek out the journey of truth of adventure or you will grow fat and lazy at home all alone. We are called to be soldiers and doers of His Word, and not to be fat little lordlings of a manner. We are the sons and daughters of His army and we are called to be the children of light. Only the night is cool, but we are of the day, and by day do we face our true-self in the testing of the fire and light of the sun!
With our new life together we have found ourselves on a mission of truth, shaped to show the world the real power of God by allowing ourselves to be used in the power of His love, and together we are dedicated to being used to change lives through this power and revealing His greatest mysteries to His elect. And if you are still reading this, it is very likely that you too hear His calling and follow our Lord Jesus Christ as a “Christian” and chosen to carry a great light. And my guess too is that you have seen more than your share of suffering in the fires that burned yet refined. And if you are still reading, then perhaps you too are also being called to the ties of love and brotherhood that bind… because you too carry the cross of a great cost and wear a crown earned in service to the great divine.
Please come join regularly us as we embark upon our greatest adventure together yet, and as we endeavor to unlock and share the Bible’s greatest mysteries! There is real freedom locked away inside His Book of Life… Sometimes you just need to know how to see it.
